You might also want to check to see if the little plug (brass on mine), on the right side of the carb has been removed allowing you to adjust the needle to richen up the mixture.
The brass plug is pressed in so you will have to drill a little hole in the plug, put a metal screw in the hole and use a small slide hammer to get the plug out.
